CREATE YOUR OWN BUTTONS: FROM UGLY DUCK TO BEAUTIFUL SWAN
Dear Readers, today I would like to share with you few ideas how to create beautiful buttons for your projects using products you most likely got on your shelves. Recycle your old nail polishes and unused buttons.
WHAT WILL YOU NEED?
Nail polish and cheap buttons. Ordinary nail polish and to create a crackle effect you will need crackle nail polish, any brand will work the same.
Buttons can be any colour, but it is easier to work on light coloured, so it is advisable to use white gesso on black button before applying nail polish.
LET'S GET STARTED
The procedure is the same as polishing your nails, except base coat is not needed.
First apply desirable colour. Let it dry. You might need to repeat this process few more times.
After first colour is completely dry (this is important to let it dry completely before applying crackle polish), apply the crackle nail polish (this coat must be thick enough, otherwise it will not crack nicely).
If you desire mat finish leave painting at this point. But if you are going for a glossy look apply clear nail polish to finish you project.
TIP 1: You can use gilding wax or any other product to change the design. To create glitter button dip it into glitter while the nail polish is still wet or try micro beads.
TIP 2: If you layers few crackle nail polish layers you will achieve an aged look, and if enhance it with gilding wax antique look guaranteed!
TIP 3: Try water marble to paint your buttons. Into a bowl with water apply drops of nail polish, each time different colour. After gently mix (do not over mix!) it and then dip a button. Once the button removed from water it will be coloured in marble effect.
I hope you will enjoy making your own buttons. Children love it as well, and how they could resist to use nail polish? Let me know how did you find this project. Bye for now...
