FABRIC FLOWERS

I have been working on fabric flowers for the last couple of days. It is relatively easy and fun to make these flowers. They can be used as embelishements on cards, clothes, bags, in home decor etc.

I knew this technique for ages.
Cut circle, fold into half, fold again and again as many times as many petals u want. Then cut half way towards centre each fold. Make as make circles as your heart desires. However each circle must be gradualy smaller or vise versa. Then burn each petal with candle flame, by holding circle above flame, but do not let it catch fire. I used tweezers to hold fabric. It is useful to have a bowl of water in case fabric would catch fire. After all petals and circles are done, place them one on another. Sew them all togethetrin the middle and add germs for finishing touch.

The smaller flower has got only 6 petals on each circle. The big one has around 8-10 petals and circles are bigger, the cuts are less deep. During burning process petals started melting creating lovely black edges for flowers. I believe this was silk.

I have not decided for which project i will use them, but i am happy with the result.

Grey flowers were made from linen. Cut different size circles. Distress edges by removing treads. This helps to create shabby look. Pink and dark brown colours were added using alcohol pens. Then place petals one on another, sew them together in the middle and add a pearl in the centre. I believe this fabric due to its nature gives a very organic look to these flowers. Leaves were created cutting squares and distressing edges by finishing them with a touch of colour.

The biggest flower was done a bit differently.
