steam punk wall art using spellbinder's dies Cogs and 3d m-bossabilities

Hello everybody! today i decided to share my tutorial how to create a steam punk wall art using new release spellbinders Cogs and 3d M-bossabilities Creative Cogs. I used recycled products for this project. i cut embossed, stamped, die cut tin cans from Pepsi.

Products you will need for this project:

  • small canvas 20x20 cm
  • gesso primer white. If you haven't got any, you can use white acrylic colour instead.
  • acrylic paints: Metallic Bronze and Metallic Antique Gold. I used Docrafts Artiste brand, but any can do the job.
  • Luminarte shimmering mists: Butternut and Sunburst.
  • Crackle medium by Gallery Glass.
  • StazOn inks: Timber Brown and Jet Black. only these kind of inks will stay on metallic surface.
  • Tim Holtz ink Rusty Hinge.
  • 3-4 empty tin cans
  •  Spellbinders 3d M-bossabilities 'Creative Cogs'
  • Spellbinders dies 'Cogs' and 'Grommet tags'
  • JustRight stamps 'Going places Vintage Labels' and  matching 'Vintage Label&Banner' dies

    Creative expressions 'Celebration' stamps set.

Lets' get  started

CANVAS PREPARATION
1. Apply acrylic Gesso Primer on your canvas

Do not forget the sides of canvas

2. Apply Metallic Bronze and Antique Gold randomly and distribute them with  brush over canvas
Let it dry. Optional use the heating tool to speed up the drying process.

3. Once it is dry or still drying spay Luminarte shimmering mists. Distribute them with brush as you like.

4. Once this is dry apply Crackle Medium over the top and sides.

Once the medium starts drying it will create a crackles on your canvas.

5.Use inks to create more aged distressed look.

I used StazOn Jet Black on top of  Rusty Hinge Distress Ink. applied it in patches and then smudged it using tissue.

PREPARATION OF DIE CUTS

1. make sure your can is empty and clean. then cut top of it. i used Tonic scissors to do it. be careful do not cut yourself during this process. be aware the edges of cut tin might be very sharp. they will smooth during embossing process.
Cut off top, bottom and then in the middle

You will end up with this

2. Now the fun part!. Emboss 2 offcuts with embossing folder 'Creative Cogs' to the size which suits your project. cut out cogs with Spellbinder's dies 'Cogs'. As many as you need.
stamp image or sentiment with StazOn ink and cut to the shape. I used the image from JustRight stamps 'Going places Vintage Labels' and die cut with matching Vintage Label&Banner dies.
Sentiment was used from Creative expressions Celebration stamps set. Die cut with Grommet tags from Spellbinders.

use repositioning tape to keep dies in place while you cutting.

3. Create distressed look with inks. be careful do not smudge the image itself.

COMPOSITION

1. Lie down your offcuts on the canvas.

2. Glue everything into place with silicon glue.
3. Image might be too dark because of the colour of tin. I used Luminarte shimmer sprays on top of finished project. first i sprayed it with Sunburst, after with Butternut. removed excess with tissue in places i did not needed it. Let it dry.
This enhanced the embossed pattern.

4. Add labels and if you need apply shimmer mists again. and you will end up with similar to this project.

Happy crafting. Leave comment how did you enjoy this project. Do not hesitate to contact me if you got any questions.
